Activities and Events

Members of UMW’s JSA/Hillel are always welcome at Beth Sholom Temple, a Reform congregation located about ten minutes away from campus by car. Students can usually arrange a ride to Friday night Shabbat services, and many students attend High Holiday services there.

  • Do you have many modern Orthodox students on campus? Also, can you please tell me about your Shabbat services and if you have a kosher meal program?
    Thank you

  • Hi Susan,

Unfortunately, we do not have a Kosher program on this campus. We have been working on this issue for a while now, but it does not look like the situation will change any time soon. Because of this, we do not have modern Orthodox students on this campus, so reform and conservative students make up the majority of our Hillel. We have Friday night meetings where we recite Shabbat blessings over the candles, challah, and grape juice. We don’t offer complete services on campus but a reform shul is 10 minutes away by car.
